Rock Hill, SC – Authorities in Rock Hill have charged a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with two separate armed robberies in the city last week. The teen is accused of participating in the crimes carried out at Budiman’s Smoke Shop and Art Gallery along Cherry Road, and a 7-Eleven store on the same road back on Tuesday, January 30th.
Local law enforcement officials located the young suspect at a vacant residence on Cherokee Avenue. During a thorough search of the property, they discovered a handgun suspected to have been used during the robberies, along with clothing items matching those worn by the criminal in surveillance footage from the crime scenes.
In connection with the Budiman’s robbery, the minor has been charged with Armed Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy, and Kidnapping. Additional charges of Armed Robbery and Criminal Conspiracy were leveled for the 7-Eleven incident. Impressively, the teenager has further been charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during a Crime of Violence in connection to a robbery that transpired on the evening of Tuesday, January 30th.
As per reports regarding the incident at the Founders ATM located at 1404 Ebenezer Road, a victim was intercepted while trying to make a cash deposit. The perp revealed a handgun tucked into his waistband and demanded the victim’s cash. After receiving the money, he took off.
Authorities are now tasked with identifying other male perpetrators involved in the Budiman’s and 7-Eleven robberies. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials have urged anyone with useful information to contact the local police.
As news of the arrest spread across the community, local residents expressed relief but also anxiety at the alarming involvement of a minor in such grave crimes. Various sectors of society are now calling for more focused efforts to prevent juvenile delinquency and to involve young people more effectively in community-building initiatives.
