Texas Takes Top Spot in AP Poll

In Austin, Texas, there’s a buzz in the air as the Longhorns are now the No. 1 team in the latest AP Poll for the first time since October 2008. It’s been a while since they held the top ranking; back then, hit songs by T.I. and Britney Spears were dominating the charts. Fast forward to 2024, and the Longhorns are making a comeback with a perfect record of 3-0, including a significant road win against a top-10 opponent just two weeks ago.

The Longhorns managed to leapfrog over Georgia, which narrowly beat an unranked Kentucky team by just a single point in their last game. Texas has impressed fans and critics alike with an offensive performance that seems unstoppable, regardless of whether quarterback Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning is leading the charge.

In addition to Texas’s rise, the AP Poll also shows some shuffling in the rankings. Kansas State made a significant leap to the No. 13 spot after defeating the then-No. 20 Arizona. Oklahoma State fell just behind them at No. 14, while No. 12 Utah held steady in its position. This week promises excitement as Utah heads to Oklahoma State, and in the following week, Kansas State will host the Cowboys, further shaping the Big 12 title race.

Week 3 was relatively calm in terms of major upsets, with only two teams ranked in the top 25—Arizona and Boston College—losing to higher-ranked opponents. This resulted in No. 24 Illinois and No. 25 Texas A&M jumping into the rankings. Illinois, with a record of 3-0, secured a significant win against ranked Kansas two weeks ago and most recently topped Central Michigan. Texas A&M also made their return after a dominant performance against Florida, showcasing their backup quarterback skillfully.

The stage is set for another thrilling week of college football, especially with College Gameday heading to Oklahoma for Week 4. Fans can expect every game to be a nail-biter as teams aim to climb the rankings and make their mark.
