Divine Savior Holy Angels Dominates Girls’ Golf State Championships with Record-Breaking Performance

"Golf Trophy Celebration"

Madison witnessed exciting golf action as the girls’ teams took to the University Ridge Golf Course for the state championships. In a dominant display, Divine Savior Holy Angels not only defended their title but did so in style, shooting a remarkable total of 637, a whopping 29 strokes ahead of their nearest competitor, Prescott, who finished the tournament with a score of 666. Prescott was accustomed to success, having won four consecutive titles in Division 2, but their move to Division 1 this year proved challenging.

Both Kaukauna and Bay Port competed as well, finishing seventh and ninth, respectively, with scores of 693 and 710. Notably, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam/Wayland shot a stunning tournament-record round of 65 on Monday. After a second round of 73, she found herself tied at 138 with Payton Haugen from Brookfield East, who had a score of 70 on the final day. In the playoff that followed, Nelson made par while Haugen ended with a bogey, securing the individual championship for Nelson.

Meanwhile, in Division 2, Edgewood emerged victorious with a total score of 756, finishing just four strokes ahead of Spooner. This win marked the Crusaders’ 16th WIAA state title but their first since 2019. Standout performers included Belle Kongshaug from Colfax/Elk Mound, who took home the Division 2 individual title with a score of 153.

The competition brought together top talents and fierce rivals, making it a memorable day for players, fans, and families alike.
