High School Football Playoffs: A Summary of Action in Maryland

This past Wednesday, excitement filled the air in Maryland as several high school teams kicked off their playoff runs in the varsity football scene. Notably, the defending Class 1A state champions, Harford Tech, showcased their dominance with a solid 8-0 victory over Joppatowne. The Cobras were on fire, with standout performances by Brody Smith and Colby Golding, each netting two goals. Additional goals came from Brayden Chryst, Zach Lane, Reese Topfer, and Robert Brzezinski, with Brzezinski and Lane also providing two assists each.

In a stunning display of offensive strength, Patterson Mill overwhelmed Frederick Douglass with a whopping 12-0 victory in the Class 1A North Region II quarterfinals. Both Carson Harting and Chandler Williams scored two goals, while Phil Tolliver, Nate Kiefer, Caleb Zerbe, Grayson McLaughlin, Finn Pantazelos, Kolton Gibson, Joey Sauer, and Owen Young each contributed with one goal.

Bel Air also had a successful outing, defeating Digital Harbor 7-0 thanks to a standout performance from Mason Smedley, who netted a hat trick. Other contributors included Blake Stallard with one goal and two assists, while Louis Hernandez-Giron, Tanner Shugart, and Parker Schuelke found the back of the net as well.

In other matchups, Poly defeated Aberdeen 3-0, while Fallston secured a 2-1 win against North Harford. The Cougars scored both their goals in the second half through Levi Tanguay and Ariya Khairghadam, with Mason Judd assisting on both plays.

Looking ahead, South River will face James M. Bennett after their 2-0 win against Arundel, while Glenelg and Winters Mill both secured convincing victories. The playoffs are in full swing, setting the stage for more thrilling football action in the coming days.
