This past Friday, high school football teams across the region hit the field, showcasing some thrilling matches and impressive plays. Here are the highlights from the action.

Class L First Round: Glastonbury vs. Hamden

In a commanding performance, Glastonbury took down Hamden with a final score of 6-1. Glastonbury’s front-line players showed their skill, led by Addison Infante, who scored an impressive three goals. Other contributions came from Samantha Kohlun, Zoe White, and Deirdre McKiernan, each contributing a goal to the scoreboard.

For Hamden, Lexy Patel managed to find the back of the net once, but that was not enough to keep pace with Glastonbury’s offense. In terms of assists, McKiernan played a key role with two assists, while Infante, along with Annelise Manzotti, each added one. In goal, Glastonbury’s Maddie O’Connell made three saves, while Hamden’s Ava Eramo stepped up with an impressive eight saves, showcasing her skills on the field.

With this win, Glastonbury’s record improves to 16-1, while Hamden falls to 11-6.

Class M Second Round: Seymour vs. Wilcox Tech

In another exciting match-up, Seymour delivered a dominant performance against Wilcox Tech, sweeping the match 3-0 with scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-4. Key players for Seymour included Ana Overkamp with six kills, and Kenzie O’Hayre contributing eight digs. Additionally, Ryan Sadick was on fire, scoring nine kills throughout the match.

Class S Second Round: Innovation vs. Coginchaug

In a tightly contested battle, Innovation came out on top against Coginchaug with a final score of 3-2. With sets of 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, and 25-21, Innovation displayed their resilience by clinching the last set 15-10. Standout performances came from Patrina McHugh with ten digs, Madison Ramos who also had 11 digs, and Phoebe Candy who contributed eight kills. Sezja Jacobs was crucial with three blocks, helping her team secure the win.
