Rock Hill Grieves After Woman Found Dead in Home

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Rock Hill Police are currently investigating the tragic death of a woman found in her home on Saturday evening. The deceased, a 53-year-old woman, was discovered after authorities conducted a welfare check at her residence, located just a few miles from downtown.

Incident Details

Police responded to a call for a welfare check at a home on Cauthan Street. When officers arrived, they were unable to enter the property without assistance from a contractor. Upon gaining access to the home, they found the woman deceased inside, and investigators reported that it appeared she had been assaulted.

Community Reactions

The incident has left the community shaken. Resident Ann-Lewis Bisesi expressed her concerns, stating, “There’s no American dream left for us there really isn’t.” Bisesi, who has lived in the area for several years, lamented the shift in their neighborhood dynamics in recent times, citing an increase in crime, including gunfire and drug-related activities.

“Guns and shooting and different kinds of things like that,” she recalled, emphasizing that her neighborhood has seen significant changes that have led to growing fears among residents. Bisesi added, “The whole neighborhood has been changing. It’s getting a little scary.”

Local Sentiments

Hector Amau, another resident, described his mixed feelings about living in the neighborhood. “It’s a nice place to live,” he said, “but I do try to avoid certain areas.” He admitted to taking precautions to stay safe, indicating a rise in anxiety among residents.

One woman, who requested to remain anonymous, displayed a knife she carries for protection whenever she steps outside. This sentiment was echoed by Bisesi, who remarked, “People have guns, people have knives, people have sticks.”

Safety Concerns

Despite some residents expressing hope for a safer community, the fear remains prevalent. “I never want to see anything wrong, I never have a problem. This is a quiet neighborhood,” said Amau, highlighting the desire for things to return to normal.

Another neighbor commented on the importance of not letting fear dictate their lives: “You can’t be afraid; when you’re afraid, the element wins. We don’t want the element to win,” they asserted, advocating for a proactive approach to tackle the crime wave that has impacted the area.

Call for Police Support

Local residents are now calling for increased police patrols in hopes of restoring safety to their neighborhood. The tragic incident that claimed a life has intensified their pleas for support from law enforcement.

As Rock Hill grapples with this loss, the community’s desire for peace and security remains strong. Neighbors are urged to remain vigilant and support one another during these troubling times.
