Arlington High Schools Ready for Exciting Football Playoff Weekend
This week in Arlington, the high school sports scene may be quieter than usual, but there’s still plenty to look forward to, especially for football fans. On Friday night, two football playoff games will take place featuring three teams from Arlington.
The first game has the Yorktown Patriots squaring off against the Washington-Liberty Generals at 7 p.m. This match is expected to be a thrilling encounter as both teams look to advance in the playoffs. In another matchup, Bishop O’Connell will take on St. Mary’s Ryken, also at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their local teams as they battle for postseason glory.
Aside from football, other sports are also keeping athletes busy. The Class 6 state girls field hockey tournament semifinals will feature the Yorktown Patriots taking on Fairfax at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach at 5 p.m. The field hockey championships follow this at 4 p.m., showcasing some of the best talent in the state.
Icing things up, the ice hockey season rolls on. The Yorktown ice hockey team is set to face Loudoun Valley at MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 8 p.m., while the Washington-Liberty Generals will go against Forest Park at the Prince William Ice Center at 9:10 p.m.
Meanwhile, the basketball and wrestling seasons are just kicking off with scrimmages happening throughout the week. On Friday night, various boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will compete in scrimmages, including matchups for Washington-Liberty, Yorktown, and Wakefield.
