Arlington High Schools Prepare for a Relaxed Week of Sports
As Thanksgiving approaches, Arlington high schools see a quieter week in sports. The holiday and the shift from fall to winter sports mean fewer events, but there are still some exciting competitions coming up.
This week, the spotlight is on the Washington-Liberty Generals, who are set for a crucial postseason matchup. They will face off against Langley in a region semifinal football game on Friday, November 29, at 7 p.m.. This game is highly anticipated, as both teams have shown strong performances this season.
In addition to football, a variety of preseason scrimmages in basketball and wrestling are also scheduled. On Saturday, wrestling teams will be in action with several events: Wakefield competing at West Springfield starting at 9 a.m., Washington-Liberty hosting a scrimmage against Lewis at noon, and Yorktown facing off against Justice at 9 a.m..
Basketball teams will also be warming up with scrimmages. West Springfield will take on Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while Hayfield visits Yorktown for another scrimmage at the same time. The girls’ basketball teams have their own matches lined up with St. Andrew’s visiting Bishop O’Connell at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, and Justice heading to Washington-Liberty for a matchup at the same time.
Topping off the week, there’s a thrilling girls ice hockey match on Saturday as Bishop O’Connell meets St. John’s at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 3:30 p.m.
Most high school events will pause for the holiday from Wednesday, November 27 through Friday, November 29, allowing teams and supporters to enjoy Thanksgiving festivities together.
