Chatfield Boys Basketball Shines with New Energy
LITTLETON — The Chatfield boys basketball team has turned a new leaf this season after last year’s struggles. With a disappointing 4-19 record, the Chargers are determined to show they are serious contenders this year. Senior player Creighton Chaney expressed the team’s enthusiasm, saying, “The hardest part is getting your whole team on the same page. We’ve put the work in and decided to step it up.”
Under the leadership of new head coach Nathan Jerome, the Chargers have kicked off the season strong with a 2-1 record. The team demonstrated their talent in a commanding 68-36 victory over D’Evelyn in the Charger Tournament on Wednesday night, showcasing their potential for the season ahead.
Jerome, who previously served as an assistant coach at Dakota Ridge, noted the importance of rebuilding confidence within the team. “Some of it was just building the confidence back up. It is just a change in thinking,” he mentioned. With many players lacking varsity experience, he sees this as an opportunity to create a fresh and dynamic strategy.
During the game against D’Evelyn, Chatfield started off strong, quickly gaining a 10-0 lead. However, D’Evelyn responded with a 12-0 run, briefly taking the lead. Jerome acknowledged their ongoing challenges, saying, “We still have a long way to go on our offense.” Still, he praised the defense, which allowed only 23 points in the final three quarters.
With a diverse lineup, Chaney and sophomore Brody Logan led the scoring, each contributing to the team’s commanding lead. With ten players scoring throughout the game, the depth of the team proves encouraging for their upcoming matches.
As the Chargers prepare for the semifinals against Highlands Ranch, Chaney emphasizes the significance of each game. “Every game is important no matter what. You want to fight with the same effort. You want to prove you are a tough team,” he articulated.
The Chargers will have the chance to secure a spot in the championship game on Saturday, aiming for a championship to kickstart their season positively.
