This past Saturday, December 14, high school football teams across Southern California competed in intense CIF State championship games, showcasing some incredible talent and determination. Here are the results from major matchups:

OPEN DIVISION

In a highly anticipated game, Mater Dei defeated De La Salle with a score of 37-15. With this victory, Mater Dei finishes the season undefeated at 13-0 and is likely to be named national champion. The team showcased a strong performance, including a notable 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dash Beierly to Mark Bowman.

DIVISION 1-A

Edison clinched their first CIF state title after a thrilling 21-14 victory over Fresno Central. The standout moment came when Sam Thomson connected with Jake Minter for a 54-yard touchdown pass with just 20 seconds left on the clock, sealing the deal for the Chargers.

DIVISION 2-A

The Palos Verdes Sea Kings triumphed over Twelve Bridges with a stunning score of 55-19. Their quarterback, Ryan Rakowski, had an incredible game, throwing 6 touchdown passes and finishing with 353 yards, making history by tying the state record for a championship game.

DIVISION 3-A

In a nail-biter, Vanden managed to overcome Rio Hondo Prep 42-41 in overtime. The game ended dramatically with Rio Hondo Prep’s Noah Penunuri scoring a touchdown but falling short on a crucial two-point conversion attempt.

DIVISION 4-A

Sonora celebrated its first-ever state championship after defeating St. Pius X-St. Matthias with a score of 52-34. The team displayed a powerful running game, finishing with over 360 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

DIVISION 6-A

In an overtime thriller, Arcata edged out Portola 27-21. After a fumble by Portola in overtime, Arcata made a decisive move with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Luke Lemke.
