Fort Mill Interchange Project Poised for Advancement

The Rock Hill Fort Mill Area Transportation Study (RFATS) has given the green light to the South Carolina Highway 160 – Interstate 77 Interchange Reconfiguration Project after a policy committee meeting was held this week. Should all go as planned, this will be the first project of this scale and complexity in the region, featuring two flyover bridges.
According to the Director of RFATS, David Hooper, the successful completion of this project will ease the stacking traffic off the interstate, thus benefiting commuters in the neighborhood. In conjunction with the interchange, RFATS plans to extend the Corridor – Sutton Road on the West to Highway 21 on the East from four lanes to six. This action is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
Funding and Project Timeline
The hefty price tag for these projects, approximately $145 million, will be jointly funded by the State Infrastructure Bank, RFATS, and York County. A timeline outlining project milestones was also disclosed by the authorities. It is anticipated that all project work will be fully completed by 2027, with groundbreaking activities planned for February 2024.
