Game Summary
Nicholas Badillo’s RBI single brought in Charlie Evans to put Winthrop up 1-0 to start the night. The 49ers tied the score on Rene Lastres’s RBI single to center field. Jaylen Hernandez broke the early deadlock with a two-run blast to right center field in the Eagle half of the third. But two RBI singles by Carson Bayne and Shane Taylor put the home standing 49ers in the lead in the bottom of the inning. The Eagles went back out in front in the fourth on two big RBI singles by Abe Affholter and Alan Benhardt.
Charlotte knotted the contest in the fifth on another Lastres RBI single only to have Chancellor Jennings come in safely on a 49er error. The 49ers re-took the lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Noah Furcht and Furcht coming in to score on a bases-loaded walk with two outs a couple of plays later. With the bases loaded with one out in the seventh one play after Ty Hooks flew out to center field to score Anthony Ruocco to tie it at seven, Evans put Winthrop on top on a fielder’s choice, bringing home Will Dorrell.
However, a three-run bottom of the inning for Charlotte gave them the lead for good. The 49ers added an insurance run in the next inning on a sacrifice bunt by Johnny Sutryk to end the night.
