Among the hot-button issues discussed was the ongoing NCAA investigation into the team’s sign-stealing scandal, which continues to draw attention from fans and the media alike.
Recently, a report surfaced suggesting that Moore might face consequences for deleting over 50 text messages exchanged with Connor Stalions shortly after the sign-stealing allegations came to light. Although the situation is still fluid, it is anticipated that the NCAA will soon issue its official Notice of Allegations to Michigan.
Another topic that made waves was the initial announcement of Jim Harbaugh returning to serve as the honorary captain for Michigan’s season opener against Fresno State on August 31. This news generated considerable buzz, particularly so soon after the NCAA had announced a four-year show-cause penalty and one-year suspension for Harbaugh. However, in a shift, it was confirmed that he would not be present for the game.
During the press conference, Coach Moore reiterated the program’s cooperation with the NCAA: “We have in the past, will in the future, and we’ll continue to do that,” he stated, emphasizing the need for confidentiality as the investigation continues. Regarding the deleted text messages with Stalions, he expressed anticipation for their eventual release, stating, “I look forward to them being released.”
When asked about Harbaugh’s absence from the opening game, Moore explained, “Coach didn’t feel that he could leave his team. He wanted to be in the foxhole with his team.” He noted that Jack and Jackie Harbaugh, Harbaugh’s parents, would take his place as honorary captains during the opener.
Amid the challenges, Moore commented on the negative attention the Michigan football program has received, saying, “When you’re at the bottom, they don’t respect you. When you’re in the middle, they ignore you. When you’re at the top, they hate you.” He maintains that the team will stay focused and continue to push forward, regardless of the distractions.
Regarding recruiting limitations imposed by the NCAA, Moore stated, “Not much impact. We’re just going to keep going. Not much you can do about it, so we’re just going to keep rolling.” As the season approaches, Michigan fans eagerly await how these stories unfold on the field.
