This past weekend, the excitement of high school football returned to Indianapolis as teams kicked off their seasons in a series of thrilling matchups across the state. Fans flocked to the stands, eager to see their favorite teams in action. The energy was palpable as schools competed for bragging rights and valuable early-season victories.

Among the highlights, the game between Cathedral and Ben Davis was particularly noteworthy. Cathedral’s strong performance led them to a convincing 24-6 win over the top-ranked Ben Davis. The scoring started with a 40-yard field goal from Van Krisiloff, followed by a touchdown pass from Cameron Koers to Devaughn Slaughter. Cathedral continued its scoring drive with a fumble return by Kyle Harden and a strong touchdown run by Jalen Bonds. Despite a standout 100-yard interception return by Ben Davis’ Mark Zackery, it wasn’t enough to overpower Cathedral’s offense.

In other action, Westfield managed to pull off a notable win against Center Grove, edging them out 34-28. Gabe Aramboles was a standout for Westfield, catching a touchdown pass and throwing for another, accumulating 138 yards and leading his team to victory. Carsen Melvin, in his first game as quarterback, displayed impressive skill and composure throughout the match.

Another big winner this week was Hamilton Southeastern, dominating their matchup against FW Carroll with a score of 45-21. Azariah Wallace shone brightly in the game, scoring four touchdowns and helping propel his team forward with impressive rushing stats.

As the weekend unfolded, other games also garnered attention, with Franklin taking down New Albany with a score of 47-6, and Roncalli trouncing Southport 37-13. Each game highlighted the talent and determination of high school athletes eager to make their mark in this competitive sport.

With only the first week concluded, the excitement is only just beginning for Indiana high school football, as teams and fans look forward to more thrilling matchups in the weeks ahead.
