SELMA, AL – A tragic incident has deeply affected the local community as Caden Tellier, the talented quarterback for Morgan Academy, passed away on Saturday after suffering a serious brain injury during a football game on Friday night. His family shared the heartbreaking news via social media, confirming his death.
Parents Arsella Slagel Tellier and Jamie Tellier posted on their Facebook accounts Saturday evening, stating, “Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face.” The emotional message included their appreciation for the outpouring of love and prayers they received from the community and added, “We covet them for the hard days ahead.”
The family emphasized Caden’s spirit of kindness, generosity, and love, noting that he touched many lives and that his legacy would continue even after his passing. “True to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time. Lives have been touched by the way he lived and now lives will be saved through his passing,” the post read.
The unfortunate incident occurred during the third quarter of the game against Southern Academy. Following the injury, Caden was airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham for treatment.
Initially, there was some confusion regarding his condition. The director of the Alabama Independent Schools Association, Micheal McLendon, posted on the AISA Facebook page indicating that Caden had died. However, shortly after, that post was removed, and a new update stated that he was in critical condition.
In light of this tragedy, Morgan Academy has announced that they will be suspending all school activities for the upcoming week as they deal with the loss. Arrangements for a memorial service for Caden will be made soon, as the community rallies to support his family during this difficult time.
