As the high school football season moves into its second week, teams across Alabama are already making a name for themselves. The Alabama Sports Writers Association has released the latest statewide rankings, showing how teams stack up after the initial games.
In the Class 7A rankings, Central-Phenix City is at the top with a solid record of 2-0 and an impressive 216 points, receiving 18 first-place votes. Enterprise follows closely behind, also undefeated at 2-0 with 145 points. Rounding out the top five are Thompson, Auburn, and Dothan, all of whom have strong performances so far.
Over in Class 6A, Saraland leads the pack with a record of 2-0 and 193 points, garnering 11 first-place votes. Parker and Clay-Chalkville are not far behind, both maintaining perfect records as well. Other teams like Spain Park and Oxford are quickly gaining attention, each with solid starts to their seasons.
In the Class 5A division, Guntersville stands proud with a 2-0 record and 191 points after collecting 12 first-place votes. Catholic-Montgomery and Central-Clay County are also off to great starts, both holding a 2-0 record.
Meanwhile, in Class 4A, Jackson leads despite a 1-1 record, showcasing its strong performance with 216 points. Pleasant Grove and Cherokee County follow closely behind, each looking to improve their standings in the coming weeks.
In Class 3A, T.R. Miller takes the top spot with a 2-0 record and 171 points, while Gordo and Mars Hill Bible are neck-and-neck with the same record but slightly lower points.
As we look further down to Class 2A, Wadley is leading the charge with a 2-0 record and 207 points. Leroy is close behind, holding a 1-1 record but showing promise.
Finally, in Class 1A, Chambers Academy is currently at the top with a 1-1 record and 209 points. Lowndes Academy and Banks Academy are also in the mix, each starting strong.
As teams prepare for their next games, fans can expect a thrilling season ahead, filled with incredible plays and standout performances. Keep an eye on your favorite school as the rankings continue to shake out!
