Columbia, S.C. – American Freight to Close All Stores Amid Bankruptcy

American Freight, a well-known furniture and appliance retailer, is set to close its doors for good, including all ten locations in South Carolina. This announcement comes as part of a larger decision by its parent company, Hilco Consumer-Retail, to shut down all 328 American Freight stores across the United States.

What is Happening?

The company recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal court in Delaware, stating that inflation and macroeconomic challenges were major factors in their decision. As a result, all stores, including the one located on Atlas Road in Columbia and others in cities such as Greenville, North Charleston, Rock Hill, and Myrtle Beach, will be closing.

When Will This Happen?

The closing of American Freight stores is occurring now, with sales already underway. The company has begun to offer discounts and is actively liquidating its inventory. Customers can expect to find savings of up to 30% on storewide merchandise.

Where Can You Shop?

Customers in South Carolina can visit any of the following locations as they prepare for closure:

  • 1424 Atlas Rd, Columbia, SC
  • 2600 Anderson Rd, Greenville, SC
  • 473 E Blackstock Rd, Spartanburg, SC
  • 122 E Shockley Ferry Rd, Anderson, SC
  • 1680 Richland Ave W, Aiken, SC
  • 809 Albright Rd, Rock Hill, SC
  • 1049B Glenforest Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC
  • 5101 Ashley Phosphate Rd, North Charleston, SC
  • 4750 Goer Dr, Ste C, North Charleston, SC
  • 1117 Woodruff Rd, Greenville, SC

Why Is This Happening?

According to Hilco Consumer-Retail, the decision to close all American Freight stores was driven by a combination of economic factors impacting sales, particularly inflation. The company aims to provide substantial value to its customers during this liquidation sale, which includes a range of products offered at discounted prices.

What Products Are On Sale?

Shoppers will find a variety of items available during the closing sale. The store’s inventory includes:

  • Living room sets
  • Bedroom furniture
  • Dining tables
  • Scratch & Dent appliances
  • New in-box appliances, including refrigerators, washers, and dryers

Moreover, the company assures customers that new inventory will continue arriving even as the liquidation sales commence.

Final Remarks

“Our goal is to deliver outstanding value to customers during this full chain closing sale,” stated Ian Fredericks, CEO of Hilco Consumer-Retail. “Everything is on sale and must be sold, and we recommend shopping early for the best selection.”

As American Freight prepares to close its doors, shoppers are encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing sales while they can, as the clock ticks down on the retailer’s presence in the state.
