With tenacity and an unabashed passion for food, the dedicated dietary team from AMOREM put their culinary skills to the test at the recent culinary immersion clinic held in the town of Fort Mill, South Carolina. The team consists of Lead Dietary Specialist, Tina Avery, and Dietary Specialist, Tina Bryant, both of whom represented AMOREM gracefully and professionally.
The annual culinary immersion clinic, organized by Premier and US Foods, is a celebrated event that sees teams from across the nation congregating in Fort Mill. The objective of the event is to foster collaboration amongst dietary teams, imbibe vital education, and exercise their gastronomic expertise in a highly competitive environment.
The comprehensive educational program includes a plethora of curriculum from knife safety classes to interactive demonstrations by seasoned executive chefs. The clinic goes a step further by encouraging learners to demonstrate their versatility by using a single ingredient in a multitude of delectable ways.
“These learning sessions provide us with a wealth of knowledge to take home,” says Avery. “We learned things like innovative cost-saving ideas, contemporary cooking methods, new procedures and new recipes from various cultural backgrounds. We are always excited to bring this new information and these new techniques back to our patient care units.”
After each annual immersion, culinary professionals have the opportunity to test their skills in a mock Chopped challenge, where they are teamed up and tasked with creating an authentic dish incorporating any of the manufacturer’s items and a secret ingredient. The competition focuses on flavor, plate presentation, accurate execution of the recipe, timing, and creativity.
This year’s event saw AMOREM’s Dietary team standing victorious as they tied for the second spot in the competition. The secret ingredient, incidentally, was a delightfully tangy pimento cheese spread.
“We had an excellent time and learned a great deal of new ideas,” says Avery. “We now have enhanced skills that we can utilize to provide our patients and families with comforting, appetizing meals that hopefully make them feel right at home.”
AMOREM, a nonprofit organization, is a beacon of reliable hospice and palliative care with three dedicated patient care units. In addition, the organization boasts local, full-time team members who are readily available to cater to patients and families in their own community.
Their team’s accomplishment at the culinary clinic just adds another feather to their cap, exhibiting their commitment to their services and their constant strife for excellence in each endeavor they undertake.
