Pineville Greenway Incident: Suspect Claims Mistaken Identity, Assault Charges Levied

Disturbing Assault Amid a Serene Setting

Under the warm summer sunlight in Pineville, North Carolina, disturbing events unfolded that sent shockwaves throughout the community. A routine jog along the scenic Pineville Greenway transformed into a harrowing tale on July 22nd, as an unsuspecting woman became a victim of assault. The incident occurred shortly before 2:30pm on the stretch between Leitner Drive and Centrum Parkway.

The victim was jogging when she was reportedly accosted by a man who, as per her statement, viciously grabbed her, wrestled her to the ground, and restrained her against her will. This brutal attack was reported to local authorities, who responded swiftly to the distress call. The woman managed to free herself by kicking her attacker and fled to the safety of nearby bicyclists who were passing by.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

Police converged on the scene immediately following the 911 distress call. The suspect, identified as Tyrone Duncan hailing from South Carolina, was apprehended promptly by the responding officers. Duncan is now facing charges of assault on a female and possession of methamphetamines.

In an exclusive revelation, it has been confirmed that on being taken into custody, Duncan offered a bewildering defense. He allegedly told the police that his intoxicated state led him to believe that the victim was an old friend. He claimed to have bear-hugged her out of this false recognition, and let her go when he realized his mistake.

Narcotics Found in Suspect’s Possession

During the arrest, the officers discovered and confiscated 3.4 grams of methamphetamine from Duncan, adding to the gravity of his charges. Duncan will now have to answer to charges of drug possession alongside the assault charge.

Probing Investigation and Community Reactions

Police Investigation Ensues

The local police department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The police are probing Duncan’s claims and are gathering more information on his background and potential criminal history. Despite Duncan’s claims of mistaken identity, his alleged actions, coupled with illegal substance possession, have placed him under significant scrutiny.

Community Stunned

The usually serene Pineville Greenway and the wider community are reeling from this event. Many locals have expressed their shock and distress at such a disturbing incident happening in their normally peaceful neighborhood. The assault has brought forward concerns about safety, particularly for solo joggers and walkers in the area. As a result, community leaders and local law enforcement agencies are expected to host community meetings in the coming weeks to address public concerns and discuss possible initiatives to increase safety measures in the community.
