The city of Atlanta has officially been chosen to host Super Bowl LXII in 2028, as announced by the NFL on Tuesday. The much-anticipated event will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home ground of the Atlanta Falcons.
Arthur Blank, the owner and chairman of the Falcons, expressed his excitement, stating, “This is a tremendous honor for the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia to be selected as host for Super Bowl LXII. Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events, and I know I speak for many when I say we are honored to bring it back to Atlanta in 2028 and build off the success of Super Bowl LIII in 2019.”
Super Bowl LIII saw the New England Patriots clinch their sixth title in Atlanta after beating the Los Angeles Rams in a close matchup that ended 13-3. Quarterback Tom Brady completed 21 of 35 passes, racking up 262 yards, most of which were caught by the game’s MVP, Julian Edelman, who had 10 receptions for 141 yards.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens also commented on the announcement, saying, “Atlanta does big very well. It seems like every time I turn around we’re making another announcement about something big like this, which is a testament of Atlanta’s rising status as the sports capital of the South, and in my opinion, the sports capital of the entire nation.”
This upcoming Super Bowl will mark the fourth time that Atlanta has hosted the league’s top event and the second time at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell highlighted Atlanta’s appeal, calling it a “world-class event destination” and praising Arthur Blank for his important role in bringing the Super Bowl back to the city.
Looking ahead, Super Bowl LIX is set for February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, followed by Super Bowl LX in 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and Super Bowl LXI in 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
