Welcoming Autumn in Union County

As the sun begins to rise over Union County, the early morning fog sets a serene tone for the day ahead, with temperatures warming up to a cozy 85°F. If you step outside, you might notice the gentle breeze that seems to whisper the arrival of a new season. Get ready because Sunday, September 22, marks the first official day of autumn!

Stunning Fall Foliage Awaits

Autumn in Union County is truly a sight to behold. Since relocating here, I’ve been blown away by the stunning array of fall foliage that transforms our landscapes into a painter’s canvas filled with fiery reds, vibrant oranges, and rich yellows. It’s a breathtaking experience that fills the heart with joy! If you haven’t taken the time to roam our town during this beautiful season yet, make sure to carve out some time for it. Don’t forget your camera—you’ll want to capture the magic!

Get Ready for Autumn Treasures!

Mark your calendars because the annual Autumn Treasures event in Waxhaw is almost here! Scheduled for October 12-13 from noon to 6 p.m., this celebration is set to be a fantastic weekend filled with crafts, scrumptious food, and loads of fun for the whole family! Strolling through beautiful, historic downtown Waxhaw during this time is sure to be an enjoyable experience. Come join us and share in the festive spirit!

One highlight of the event will be the Waxhaw Woodturners. They’ll have a vendor’s tent showcasing their incredible wooden creations, all lovingly crafted on a lathe. If you’re looking for unique gifts or decor for your home, this is the perfect opportunity! Plus, you can catch the woodturners at the Waxhaw Farmers Market on October 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. Support local artisans and maybe pick up a few seasonal goodies while you’re there!

Community Gatherings to Note

On September 26, the Union County Democratic Club is throwing its annual get-together at the Asian Buffet & Grill in Matthews at noon. It’s an excellent chance to mingle and discuss the ideas that matter to you and the community—grab a plate and join in!

A Fond Farewell to Kim Norwood

In some bittersweet news, Kim Norwood has announced her retirement as the executive director of the Union Symphony. After starting her journey with the Symphony in 2007 and stepping up to lead it in 2013, Kim has left an unforgettable mark. Her dedication and talent have brought us countless performances and memories. We wish her all the best as she starts this new chapter in her life!

Entertainment Update

Fans of Wheel of Fortune can look forward to Ryan Seacrest taking the helm as the new host. A seasoned emcee, Seacrest has been bringing entertainment to audiences since he was just 16 years old! With a career filled with successful projects like American Idol and Times Square’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, we can’t wait to see what he brings to our screens. He’ll celebrate his 50th birthday next year, and we’re sure he’ll continue to shine!

Team Adjustments and Advice from Coach Jones

In sports, changes are part of the game. There’s some buzz around the Carolina Panthers as quarterback Bryce Young is being benched in favor of Andy Dalton. While any change can feel a bit unsettling, the ultimate objective is to bring home those wins! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this strategy revives the team’s momentum.

If you’re looking for some motivation, here’s a little message from Coach Marcus Jones that could brighten your day:

  • Wake up early: Own your mornings and set the tone for the day.
  • Read daily: Feed your mind with knowledge and ideas.
  • Eat well: A healthy body fuels a healthy mind.
  • Love yourself: Self-care is the foundation for everything else.
  • Judge less: Focus on understanding instead of criticism.
  • Be yourself: Authenticity leads to genuine success.
  • Set goals: Clear targets keep you moving forward.
  • Plan your day: Be intentional with your time.
  • Stay positive: A good attitude creates good outcomes.
  • Find your purpose: Know your “why” to stay motivated.

Your Health Matters!

As we enter this beautiful season, don’t forget to take care of your health. Schedule those medical appointments and get your flu, shingles, pneumonia, and COVID vaccinations if they’re due. A little self-care goes a long way!

Lastly, let’s relish the beauty and the joy of waking up in North Carolina! Whether it’s the crisp air or the changing leaves, don’t let this wonderful time pass you by.

Here’s hoping everyone has a fantastic week ahead filled with warmth and delightful autumn activities!
