Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop University’s baseball team wraps up its four-game road trip with a matchup against The Citadel Bulldogs in Charleston, S.C. on Tuesday afternoon. Coming off a series against St. John’s over the weekend, the Eagles are looking to secure another victory on the road.
The Eagles will face The Citadel for the 60th time, with Winthrop leading the series 31-28 and 16-14 in Charleston. Winthrop has emerged victorious in the last three meetings. This will be the first of two encounters this season, with the return game scheduled in Rock Hill on April 10.
Winthrop has equaled Coastal Carolina in all-time wins in league history, sitting just one victory away from becoming the all-time leader since the Big South’s elevation to NCAA Division I status in 1986. The team boasts a strong pitching staff, ranking 2nd in the Big South with an ERA of 5.76. Standout player Riley Huge leads the conference in batters struck out with an impressive 81 strikeouts.
Riley Huge has been a standout performer for Winthrop, earning the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week honors multiple times. His exceptional pitching performances have led to national recognition, with Huge clinching three national pitcher of the week awards.
