Benhardt, Affholter Combine For Five Hits In Late Inning Loss At Wofford
Spartanburg, S.C. – An RBI single in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Wofford Terriers to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Eagles Wednesday night and splitting the home-and-home series with the Terriers. With the loss, Winthrop moves to 15-24-1 overall with 10 regular-season games remaining.

How It Happened
Benhardt got things started with a leadoff homer to left field. The Terriers threatened to tie the score in their half of the first with runners on the corners with two outs but a fly out ended the inning. The home team took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second on Andrew Mannelly’s RBI double and Jack Renwick’s RBI single, both with one out. Their lead would not last long as Benhardt promptly tied it at two in the top of the third on an RBI single up the middle with one out, driving in Affholter on the play. Wofford broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth on Mannelly’s RBI double down the left field line with one out. The Eagles went back out in front in the top of the fifth by scoring three runs. Wofford then tied the game at five in the seventh on Brice Martinez’s RBI triple and Daniel Jackson’s RBI groundout. Wofford won the game in the next inning on Dixon Black’s RBI single with two outs. Winthrop could not answer in the ninth.

Winthrop hosts Radford this weekend for the first Big South home series for the Eagles in a month. The first game of the three-game series will take place on Fri., May 4.
