Big South Tournament Seeding Announced, Eagles 4th Seed

Charlotte, N.C. – March 3, 2024

Winthrop University’s men’s basketball team has been announced as the fourth seed in the upcoming Hercules Tires Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship. The tournament will take place at the Qubein Center on the campus of High Point University in High Point, N.C.

The Eagles, with an overall record of 17-14 and 8-8 in the Big South, will face fifth-seeded Longwood in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 8 at 2 p.m.

Top Seeds

The regular-season champion High Point (13-3) secured the top seed for the tournament, its first No. 1 seed since 2015-16. Defending champion UNC Asheville (12-4) is the second seed, followed by Gardner-Webb at No. 3.

Seeding Process

Longwood, Presbyterian, and Charleston Southern all tied for fifth place with 6-10 records. Longwood earned the fifth seed based on a 3-1 season record against Presbyterian and Charleston Southern. This marks Presbyterian’s highest-ever seeding in the Big South Tournament, clinching the sixth seed. Charleston Southern secured the final auto-berth into the quarterfinals as the seventh seed.

Upcoming Matchups

In the first round on Wednesday, March 6, USC Upstate and Radford, who tied for eighth place with 5-11 records, will compete for the eighth seed. The winner will face High Point in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 9, followed by the Championship game on Sunday, March 10, which will be televised on ESPN2. The tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
