Bishop Gorman Set to Battle Kahuku in High School Football Season Opener for National Title Pursuit

Football Field Rivalry

Las Vegas, Nevada is set to buzz with excitement this Friday as the highly-ranked Bishop Gorman kicks off its pursuit of a national title against Kahuku from Hawaii. The game marks the beginning of the 2024 high school football season and is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Fans can catch the action live streaming on the NFHS Network.

Bishop Gorman enters the season with a strong reputation, currently holding the No. 2 spot in the SBLive/SI Top 25 preseason high school football rankings. Last year, the Gaels finished with an impressive 12-0 record, defeating two other teams that are also part of this year’s Top 25. They are looking to maintain this momentum with their star wide receiver, Derek Meadows, leading the charge. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 195 pounds, the LSU commit was a standout last season, averaging 26.1 yards per catch and scoring eight touchdowns.

On the other side, Kahuku may not hold a ranking but they are no strangers to upset victories. Just under a year ago, they stunned then-second-ranked St. John Bosco, exhibiting their capability on the field. Last season, the Red Raiders faced only two losses, one of which was against the current national champion and top-ranked Mater Dei. They quickly rebounded, winning their state championship by beating Mililani—whom they had lost to earlier in the season.

For those interested in keeping track of the game, live score updates will be available on SBLive. As both teams prepare for kickoff, all eyes will be on Bishop Gorman as they aim to assert their dominance in the early stages of the high school football season.
