Bloodhound of the York County Sheriff’s Office Dies Unexpectedly

Fred: A Remarkable Legacy of Service

Tragedy has struck in Fort Mill as it was announced that a dedicated K9 bloodhound from the York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) known as Fred, unexpectedly died on Tuesday morning. In his ten years of being an integral part of the YCSO K9 team, Fred created a significant impact that made him a valuable asset and a “dedicated and exceptional member.”

Fred’s remarkable track record includes being instrumental in over 250 suspect captures and playing a crucial role in locating missing individuals. His endearing dedication and exemplary service made him a beloved entity within the community and his team.

An Unforgettable Impact

The news of Fred’s untimely departure was met with heavy hearts across the YCSO, local community, and neighboring counties. “Fred’s legacy of bravery and service will continue to inspire and remind us of the vital role that our K9 units play in ensuring the safety and protection of York County,” Sheriff Kevin Tolson said in a statement reflecting on the enormous loss.

The late K9 served with unwavering dedication under the supervision of Sgt. Chris Kinsey, the K9 Unit Supervisor. Fred responded to more than 500 calls for service in York and the neighboring counties throughout his tenure.
