This week in Bloomington, the high school football scene saw some exciting matchups as teams battled through the season. With the girls’ basketball games dominating the headlines, the football action remained lively as well, showcasing competitive spirit among teams.
In a challenging game for the Bloomington North Cougars, they faced off against Bedford North Lawrence Stars. The Cougars, playing without key starters due to injuries, struggled to keep pace and ended the game with a score of 42-57. Despite the Cougars’ efforts, led by Kate Lehr who scored a game-high 21 points, they couldn’t overcome the Stars’ steady lead, especially as BNL outscored them in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Owen Valley Patriots continued their winning streak, defeating the Greencastle Tiger Cubs with a final score of 52-36. Owen Valley, now boasting a record of 3-0, had to come back from an early deficit. Hannah Bixler led the Patriots with 20 points, showing resilience as they limited Greencastle to just two points during the second quarter.
In another game, the Loogootee Lions kicked off their season with a strong win against the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds, resulting in a score of 55-29. The Lions jumped to a comfortable lead at halftime and maintained their momentum throughout the game, effectively shutting down Eastern Greene’s efforts.
