Fort Mill’s Brycen Redmon Shines as Top Scorer for Westminster Catawba Christian School

Fort Mill’s Brycen Redmon Leads Westminster Catawba Christian School in Scoring

Fort Mill, South Carolina – Senior guard Brycen Redmon has emerged as one of the top-ranked players in South Carolina, showcasing his remarkable scoring ability early in the season. At 6-foot-1, Redmon has quickly become a formidable presence for the Westminster Catawba Christian School basketball team, averaging 28 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game.

Impressive Start Despite Setbacks

This season, Redmon has already recorded two impressive performances, scoring over 30 points in each of those games. His unique skill set allows him to score effectively from various positions on the court. However, his quickness has also posed challenges for opposing defenders, who often struggle to keep pace with him.

Despite his explosive start, Redmon has faced several challenges this season, including a minor elbow fracture and a recent eye injury. These setbacks were compounded when he battled the flu during a game against Victory Christian Center, held at the Charlotte Hoops Challenge in Harding High School. Despite these obstacles, Redmon remains focused on leading his team to victory.

Commitment to Team Success

In an interview, Redmon shared his determination to contribute to his team’s success in any way possible. “Whatever it takes,” he said. “If that’s getting 50 points, if that’s getting 10 assists, if that’s getting 10 rebounds, whatever I can do to help my team win.” This commitment was evident when Redmon faced a tough matchup against Victory Christian, which led to a 89-67 loss for Westminster Catawba.

During that game, Redmon encountered foul trouble and could only play for 18 minutes. Despite his limited time on the court, he remained supportive of his teammates from the bench. “The sun doesn’t shine on the same dog every day,” he remarked, interpreting his performance as a temporary setback.

Focus on Improvement

According to Redmon, the main issue for his team in the game against Victory Christian was their defensive performance. “We didn’t do a bad job scoring the ball, but we gave up more points than we should have,” he stated. He is open to improving his defensive skills, signifying his commitment to becoming a more well-rounded player.

Westminster Catawba has shown promise, following a successful prior season where they achieved their first 20-win season under coach Ed Addie. With a current record of 3-5, the team looks poised to turn things around as they prepare for their upcoming conference opener against Concord Academy, which is ranked No. 4 in the Sweet 16.

Looking Ahead

As Westminster Catawba prepares to “go back in the lab,” Redmon’s love for the game shines through. “I love the game,” he said. His willingness to adapt his role on the team further emphasizes his commitment to achieving success this season.

With a player of Redmon’s caliber at the helm, Westminster Catawba Christian School remains hopeful that they can not only improve their record but also create a lasting legacy in South Carolina high school basketball.
