Charlotte, NC – Charlotte Catholic High School has commenced disciplinary actions against members of its football team following investigations into at least three incidents of bullying reported in the boys’ locker room. The school’s president, Kurt Telford, communicated the situation to parents last week, confirming that the school is taking these allegations seriously.
What Happened?
According to Telford’s statement, the incidents came to light when students reported the bullying to school authorities. In response to these reports, the school launched an investigation to determine the extent of the bullying behavior and identify the individuals involved. Telford emphasized that the school maintains a strict anti-bullying policy that encompasses all forms of intimidation.
Disciplinary Measures Announced
As a result of the investigation, disciplinary actions have been initiated against the players implicated in the bullying. Telford outlined the potential consequences, which include expulsion from school, suspension, and removal from the football team. He stated, “Charlotte Catholic High School has a strict policy that prohibits bullying and intimidation of any kind and includes consequences for anyone involved in such behavior.”

Keith Emery, the Catholic football coach, declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation, stating previously, “I really can’t discuss an ongoing investigation, but what I can tell you is that we’re taking this seriously and will take whatever disciplinary and other action is necessary to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Football Team Performance
This situation developed amidst a successful season for the Cougars’ football team, which secured a victory against Butler on October 18, winning 34-14. With this win, they not only attained their fifth consecutive victory but also clinched the No. 1 seed for the playoffs in the Southwestern 4A conference, and at least a share of the league title. Current records for the team stand at 6-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Following their last regular-season game scheduled against East Mecklenburg on Friday, the Cougars will have a break until the playoffs commence on November 15. East Mecklenburg, currently with a record of 1-7, has suffered two consecutive losses, which means Charlotte Catholic will look to finish the regular season strong.

Interestingly, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has allowed teams the option to schedule an additional game after the regular season, a decision made to accommodate teams that suffered losses due to Hurricane Helene.
