Concerns are swirling around whether Lumen Accreditation holds the same prestige and credibility as Cognia, which could potentially affect students’ ability to compete for spots at top-tier colleges and universities.

The School’s Background

Charlotte Catholic High School, established in 1955, has built a commendable reputation over the years and currently boasts an enrollment of 1,364 students. Enrollment numbers have actually seen an increase since the pandemic, reflecting a growing interest among families in providing a Catholic education. However, as schools make shifts in accreditation, parents are understandably anxious about what this could mean for their children’s educational journey.

Addressing Parental Concerns

In response to the growing concern, Gregory Monroe, the superintendent of Catholic Diocese of Charlotte Schools, wrote a letter to parents on January 9, 2024, addressing the many questions swirling within the community. Following this, Charlotte Catholic’s president Kurt Telford and principal Lori Phillips reached out to families on January 12, 2024, aiming to clarify the situation and provide reassurance.

Despite the administration’s efforts to calm the waters, many parents are not entirely convinced. The price of tuition at Charlotte Catholic is also a point of contention, with fees set at $19,521 for non-participating Catholics and $13,635 for participating Catholics.
