Police: 18 cars broken into at Charlotte hospital parking deck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Eighteen cars were broken into at Atrium Health Main’s parking deck on Saturday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reports. The break-ins happened around 3:15 a.m. at the Blythe Boulevard location.

Suspects and Stolen Items

Police reports stated that two unknown suspects broke into several vehicles, and 19 victims were listed in total. Purses, computer hardware, sunglasses, cash, and tablets were some of the items reportedly stolen.

Atrium Health Statement

Atrium Health officials released a statement regarding the incident: “It is disappointing that individuals would take advantage of patients and their visitors by breaking into their vehicle during some of the most vulnerable moments of life, as well as our dedicated health care workers. Unfortunately, crime happens throughout each community, and it is essential everyone remains aware of their surroundings and take precautions to protect themselves and their property, regardless of where they go. Atrium Health employs a well-trained security staff at all of our hospitals, including Carolinas Medical Center. Despite our diligence, it is impossible to be everywhere at all times. We have an extensive network of cameras across our campus and, in instances like this, our teams work closely with law enforcement to provide as much information and evidence as possible to assist them in identifying and prosecuting those who prey on others.”

Investigation and Contact Information

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
