Charlotte Shines a Light on Childhood Cancer Awareness

In the heart of Charlotte, N.C., September is a month filled with hope, support, and advocacy as it marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The Isabella Santos Foundation (ISF) is leading the charge to raise funds and awareness for rare pediatric cancers that touch so many lives in our community. Today, we have Hailey Rorie and Katy Ryan here to share some exciting details about how everyone can get involved.

Honoring Isabella Santos and Fighting for a Cause

The Isabella Santos Foundation was established back in 2007 by the Santos family, following the brave five-year battle of a little girl named Isabella who fought neuroblastoma. Sadly, at just seven years old, her fight came to an end, a reality that too many families face when dealing with rare cancers. “The Isabella Santos Foundation is committed to raising awareness and funds for rare pediatric cancers across our region,” says Rorie. This mission is more than just a goal; it’s a heartfelt commitment to children and families facing these unimaginable challenges.

Go for Gold Campaign

This September, the ISF invites the entire community to join in the Go for Gold campaign, which not only spreads awareness but also spotlights local businesses eager to help. With the urgency surrounding rare cancers, local businesses are stepping up, showcasing their support for families affected by these diseases. Throughout the month, ISF is highlighting six unique “cancer heroes,” each demonstrating exceptional resilience as they navigate their journeys through treatment.

It’s important to remember the numbers: pediatric cancers remain the leading cause of disease-related deaths for children under the age of 14. Regrettably, only 8% of federal funding goes towards childhood cancer research and treatments. This stark reality drives ISF to focus not just on funding innovative research, but also on providing essential support to children and their families throughout the entire journey.

Join the Celebration at Goldie’s

One way you can help is by attending the Go Gold at Goldie’s event on September 30th from 6 PM to 10 PM. This exciting event will take place at Goldie’s Live Music Bar & Restaurant, where a vibrant atmosphere will be filled with delicious bar bites, specialty cocktails, and a live performance by the fantastic Southside Watt. It’s the perfect chance to enjoy a fun evening with friends or colleagues while supporting a cause that matters deeply.

Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win exciting raffle prizes throughout the night. So why not make a night of it? Come out to support ISF’s mission and enjoy an evening to remember!

A Community Commitment

As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month wraps up, a special tribute will shine brightly over Charlotte. The city’s skyline will be lit up in purple and gold as a powerful visual reminder of our collective efforts to support children battling rare cancers. The ISF truly needs community support now more than ever. Every bit counts! Whether through donations, attending events, or even just spreading the word, you can play a part in this crucial endeavor.

Looking ahead to the Gala

And there’s more to look forward to! ISF is already gearing up for its biggest event of the year—the annual ISF Gala set for February 28th, 2025. This gala promises to continue the fight for kids with rare pediatric cancers. If you’re interested in being part of this momentous occasion, tickets and sponsorship information is readily available through the ISF website.

Let’s come together as a community this September and beyond to uplift and support our children targeted by cancer. Join the fight, attend the events, and let your voice be heard! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of many.
