A Charlotte resident, who was stranded and hospitalized after a gruesome car crash while on vacation in Turks and Caicos, has been safely transported home, thanks to the diligent efforts of her mother and the local community.
26-year-old Majesty Carr, the focal point of a city-wide relief operation, is back in Charlotte after suffering from severe internal bleeding due to a car accident during a trip with friends in Turks and Caicos. Describing the events leading up to the crash, Carr states, “I don’t remember the accident. I just remember getting in the car prior to the accident and I just woke up in the hospital and everyone was telling me what was going on, and I just woke up with broken limbs.”
Not being able to rely on a commercial flight due to her condition, the responsibility fell on her mother, Karen McMillan, to find a way to get Carr back home. McMillan initiated a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising enough funds to pay for an air ambulance. Due to the immense support of the Charlotte community, they managed to raise over $28,000. This amount will significantly help in reducing Carr’s continuing medical bills.
Now that Carr is back home, her journey to recovery begins. She will require several surgeries, namely, the placement of rods in her arm and chin due to the injuries she incurred. But despite the challenges that lie ahead, Carr expresses her gratitude to all that helped. “I want to thank everyone who sent donations, prayers, love, kind words, who’s just been genuinely supportive in getting me back home. Thank you so much because without you guys, and without my mom, my sister, and God, I would not have made it home”, shared Carr.
Karen McMillan revealed to us that the GoFundMe campaign aiming to cover the remaining part of Carr’s medical expenses is still active, and all new contributions will go towards that purpose. Even though they’ve managed to bring their girl home, the struggle continues, though now they do so with the support of the entire Charlotte community and beyond.
