Cheverus Senior Lucy Johnson Wins Prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey Award
Portland, ME – Cheverus High School senior Lucy Johnson achieved a remarkable milestone this past weekend by winning the Miss Maine Field Hockey award at the Maine Field Hockey Association’s annual awards banquet in Augusta. This award, given to the state’s top senior player, highlights Johnson’s outstanding performance throughout her high school career.
Lucy Johnson, who holds the state scoring record with a phenomenal total of 152 goals, has made history not only with her impressive stats but also as she is the second sister in her family to earn this honor. Her older sister, Lily Johnson, who is now a freshman at Boston University, won the award last year. Together, they have become the first sisters to win the award in consecutive years.
During her time in high school, Lucy led the Cheverus Stags to an impressive record of 71 wins in 72 games and secured the team’s first three championship titles in 2021, 2023, and this fall. Next year, she will take her skills to Boston University to continue her field hockey career.
“It’s great, and I’m glad that (Lily) and I get to share this bond,” said Lucy Johnson after winning the award. “It was a big goal for sure. When I came to Cheverus as a freshman, I loved the sport and I knew I was going to work hard, but I didn’t think this would be the outcome. I’m so happy it was. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. We just wanted to set each other up for success.”
With her impressive achievements and a strong commitment to the sport, Lucy Johnson is an inspiration to many aspiring players and a proud representative of Cheverus High School.
