Rock Hill Prepares for a Festive ChristmasVille Celebration
Rock Hill is gearing up for its much-anticipated winter festival, ChristmasVille, which showcases the holiday spirit from December 5 to December 8, 2023. This four-day event not only celebrates Christmas but also honors the whimsical artistic contributions of Vernon Grant, a cherished figure in the city’s history.
Who is Involved?
The festival is chaired by Maddie Ewing, who emphasizes the unique charm of Rock Hill’s Christmas celebrations. “We do Christmas unlike anybody else,” Ewing stated, highlighting the community’s pride in creating a magical experience for families and visitors alike.
What Can Visitors Expect?
ChristmasVille features a sprawling lineup of over 70 events designed for all ages. This year’s festival introduces “ChristmasVille After Dark,” which caters primarily to adults. Attendees can look forward to activities like sled races, a glow-in-the-dark disc golf tournament, and a beer garden. The festival will also include favorites like a preschool day, a Lego contest, a trolley tour, and even character breakfasts.
One of the notable additions this year is the Taste of ChristmasVille, aimed at promoting local dining establishments. Participants can collect passport stamps from various locations to earn a special t-shirt from the after-dark festivities.
Where Will Events Be Held?
Most of the events will take place in downtown Rock Hill. Visitors can easily navigate the festival by collecting maps, which outline the activities happening throughout the day. Ewing noted, “Basically anybody can come downtown and get a map, and there’s 10 to 15 things going on at any one time for folks to enjoy.” Dedicated children’s activities will include rides, inflatables, and Santa’s workshop, ensuring that young ones have plenty to do.
When is it Happening?
ChristmasVille will unfold over four days, starting from December 5 and concluding on December 8. During this time, the city will be transformed into a winter wonderland, reminiscent of a Hallmark movie setting, filled with festive street entertainment and storytelling.
Why is ChristmasVille Special?
This annual festival, which began in 2006, has steadily grown in popularity, with organizers aiming for an ambitious 100,000 visitors this year. Ewing reflects on her childhood memories associated with the event, saying, “Every year we celebrate that whimsy and that wonder.” The festival not only captures the essence of the holiday season but also fosters community spirit through localized celebrations.
Additional Community Events
While Rock Hill takes center stage with ChristmasVille, nearby communities are also gearing up for their own holiday festivities. A series of parades will kick off the Christmas season:
- Fort Mill: December 7 at 11 a.m.
- Chester: December 7 at 2 p.m.
- Hickory Grove: December 7 at 3 p.m.

Tree-lighting ceremonies are also popular in the region, drawing families together for a festive atmosphere. For those looking for a unique experience, the Lake Wylie Annual Holiday Boat Parade on December 14 is a highlight.
