Clairton High School Stadium Renamed in Honor of NFL Star Tyler Boyd as Renovation Plans Unveiled

In Clairton, Pennsylvania, a significant moment for the local high school football scene occurred as the stadium was officially renamed to honor former student and NFL player Tyler Boyd. The announcement was made on Monday, September 16, 2024, as the community prepares for a $6.6 million renovation project that will include new turf, bleachers, and lights.

Tyler Boyd, a 2013 graduate and current player in his ninth NFL season, had an extraordinary high school career at Clairton. He played a pivotal role in leading the Clairton Bears to a remarkable record of 63-1, achieving four WPIAL championships and four state titles during his tenure. The Clairton School District recognized Boyd’s outstanding contributions both on and off the field, prompting the decision to name the stadium after him.

According to Alexis Trubiani, the athletic director at Clairton, honoring Boyd was a straightforward choice. “When you say you’re from Clairton, everybody says, ‘We know Tyler Boyd,’” she stated. Boyd is a respected figure in the community, often seen supporting local sports teams and engaging with young athletes.

The current stadium, which opened its doors in 1930, previously held the name of former principal and coach Neil C. Brown since 1998. With the renovations commencing, Boyd’s legacy as a standout athlete is set to continue inspiring future generations.

Clairton’s football coach Wayne Wade emphasized the impact Boyd has had on the community and the current football team. “He’s the most-decorated football player that has come through Clairton,” Wade remarked. Boyd, who recently signed with the Tennessee Titans after a successful run with the Cincinnati Bengals, is viewed as a source of pride for the residents of Clairton.
