Winthrop University’s baseball team faced a tough loss in the second game of their three-game series against Presbyterian College, ending with a final score of 13-1 on Saturday afternoon. The team’s overall record now stands at 13-19-1, with a 4-7 standing in Big South play.
Chancellor Jennings stood out with a 1-3 performance, scoring a run and recording an RBI with a homer. The win was credited to Charlie McDaniel (6-0), while Reese Lumpkin (2-6) took the loss.
Presbyterian College took an early lead with Brody Fahr and Joel Dragoo hitting consecutive home runs in the first inning, giving them a 2-0 advantage. The Blue Hose extended their lead in the second inning with Eli Lazio and Jay Wetherington both crossing home plate on a wild pitch and a passed ball.
Winthrop’s sole run came in the fourth inning when Chancellor Jennings hit a home run. However, Presbyterian College continued to dominate, adding more runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The game concluded with Presbyterian College scoring eight runs in the eighth inning.
The series will wrap up with the final game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as Winthrop strives to bounce back from the recent defeat.
