Coconut Creek High School Football Season Recap: Monarch Knights Excel While Cougars Show Resilience

Coconut Creek High School Football Season Recap

In Coconut Creek, high school football wrapped up with both popular local teams, Monarch High School and Coconut Creek High School, showcasing their skills and determination throughout the season. Monarch High School, known as the Knights, had a strong showing, securing their third consecutive District Championship and finishing the regular season with a respectable record of 7-4.

The Knights faced a challenging schedule, having lost two of their games against top-ten ranked teams. Despite this, they showed resilience and clinched their initial playoff victory against Hkmestesd High School with a final score of 28-20. Superstar performances came from Samari Reed, who contributed with two rushing touchdowns, while Florentino Lopez powered through with 167 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jack Speader also joined the scoreboard with a touchdown of his own.

In the postseason, Monarch took on the top-seeded South High School but fell short, losing 20-14. With over a dozen seniors graduating, many are looking to continue their football careers at the collegiate level.

Coconut Creek High School, on the other hand, had a rocky start, losing their first three games of the season. However, they managed to turn things around, finishing the regular season at 4-5. Their efforts earned them the sixth seed in the playoffs. In their first playoff match against Blanche Ely High School, the Cougars put up a strong fight but lost by just a touchdown, 34-27.

Apart from football, both schools had athletes shine in other sports. In cross country, Coconut Creek had Jeremiah Accius finish in 54th place, while Monarch’s team included Joshua Reneau, Gavin Mulligan, and Brian Colquhoun. On the girls’ side, Layla Naves and Salaya Campbell represented Coconut Creek, while Monarch’s Riley Cockrehan, Luna Hill, and Isabella Alba showed impressive performances.

North Broward Prep did not qualify for the postseason in football but ended their season on a positive note, winning their last game against Pine Crest 21-7. The school also celebrated its volleyball team reaching the Regional Semifinals after a District Championship win and their golf team secured a District Championship led by Jerera Mendez, who placed third with a score of 78.

Overall, both Monarch High School and Coconut Creek High School displayed tenacity and teamwork throughout the football season, providing exciting moments for fans and athletes alike.
