CSU Defeats Winthrop, Ending Their Two-Game Winning Streak

The Charleston Southern University (CSU) women’s basketball team managed to snap Winthrop’s two-game winning streak at the latter’s home, Winthrop Coliseum. The final score settled at 63-54 in favor of the visitors on Wednesday night.

First Quarter
Starting from trailing 2-0, Jada Ryce of Winthrop quickly leveled the score, marking a personal achievement of 500 career points. The quarter ended at a close 11-10 in favor of Winthrop, after a 7-2 run.
Second Quarter
Both teams exchanged a series of baskets at the start of the second quarter, clashing at 16-16. Winthrop took a brief lead, but the Buccaneers of CSU launched an 8-0 run, going into halftime with a six-point lead at 28-22.
Third Quarter
Winthrop opened the third quarter strong, tying the score at 28 early on. Eventually, however, CSU was able to build a seven-point advantage to end the quarter in their favor at 41-34.
Fourth Quarter
CSU widened its lead to 12 points midway through the last quarter. Despite Winthrop’s best efforts, including an 11-2 run that closed the gap to just three points, CSU locked in the victory with a couple of crucial free throws in the final seconds.
Statistical Standouts
Jada Ryce, Leonor Paisana, and Nyah Stallings were key players for Winthrop, each playing more than 30 minutes and hitting double figures in scoring. Ryce also successfully surpassed a milestone of 500 career points, while Paisana made it to the ninth position in school history in career triples made now with a count of 85.
