Last Friday brought excitement to Darien, where the Hap Holohan Tournament took place, featuring a stellar lineup of high school golfers. The competition was fierce, with players from various schools showcasing their skills on the course.
Mac Lawton from McMahon took the spotlight, winning the tournament in a thrilling finish, overcoming Hap Holohan in the first playoff hole after finishing with a score of 75 during regular play. Following closely was Aryan Gautam from Trumbull, who tied with Lawton but fell short. Other notable performances included Lucas Schachter from Warde and Matthew West from Trumbull, both posting impressive scores of 77.
The top scores were spread across multiple schools, demonstrating a competitive spirit. For instance, students from Staples and Wilton made strong contributions, with Hudson Hagmann scoring 79 and the combined efforts of several Staples players led them to victory on the course. Phillip Sullivan notably had a well-rounded performance, ending with a score of 78.
Aside from golf, high school soccer also held thrilling matches, including Bethel securing a 4-2 win over New Fairfield. Goals were scored by Olivia Chamberlain, Sinead Deegan, and Laina Caffrey. HMTCA dazzled with a 6-0 victory against Classical, highlighted by Jennelly Florez Aponte scoring twice.
This weekend illustrated the talents of Connecticut’s youth and fostered school spirit across communities. The players gave it their all, and their dedication is commendable as the season progresses!
