Davante Adams Returns to Raiders After Family Leave

HENDERSON, Nev. — Davante Adams is back on the field with the Las Vegas Raiders after taking nearly two weeks off for the birth of his son. The three-time first-team All-Pro wide receiver practiced on Tuesday night for the first time since July 31. Adams expressed his excitement to return to a team currently working on a new offense and navigating a quarterback competition.

Despite his eagerness to get back into action, Adams stated, “if I’m choosing, I’m not playing” in the Raiders’ final two preseason games. He acknowledged the importance of family, saying, “you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do when it comes to family.” Missing time during training camp is not easy, but Adams is focused and ready to catch up. “You’ve got to get back to work, and it helps that I am familiar with the scheme,” he added. “Still, being able to get those reps is important as we push forward.”

The Raiders recently faced the Minnesota Vikings in their preseason opener, where they lost 24-23. Las Vegas led at halftime with a score of 20-7. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell played one series before Gardner Minshew took over for four series. Coach Antonio Pierce is expected to name the starting quarterback soon after the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Adams watched the game from home and was impressed with both quarterbacks. “They both balled out,” he said. “The O-line was doing a good job keeping both of those guys clean.” Adams hopes the positive performance of his teammates will continue, creating a tough decision for Coach Pierce.

Receiver Tre Tucker emphasized the importance of Adams’ return, saying, “The offense runs through him.” Tucker noted that Adams is a leader and a confidence booster for the team. “He’s one of the best receivers in the league,” he said. “Having him alongside us helps a lot.”

Adams, who has experience with Raiders’ new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s system from his time with the Green Bay Packers, shared his mindset after becoming a father. “I got my healthy baby boy at home,” he stated, adding that he has a strong support system to help him focus when he is at the Raiders’ facility.

As the Raiders prepare for their next preseason game, the return of Davante Adams is sure to provide a valuable boost to the offense.
