Drake Maye Named Starting Quarterback for New England Patriots as Team Looks to End Losing Streak Against Texans

Foxborough, MA – There’s a buzz around the New England Patriots as they gear up for an exciting change at quarterback. Drake Maye, a rookie from North Carolina, has officially been named the starting quarterback for the team’s upcoming game against the Houston Texans this Sunday. Maye, selected third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, takes over after spending the first five games backing up veteran Jacoby Brissett.

This decision comes after a tough stretch for the Patriots, who have lost four straight games following a solid win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. Coach Jerod Mayo stated that while Brissett was initially chosen to lead the team, Maye has shown enough promise in practice and games to earn the starting spot. “Drake gives us the best chance to win now and going forward,” Mayo said. He emphasized that Maye has been developing and improving each week.

Maye expressed his excitement about making his first NFL start, noting, “It’s something you dream of, getting your first start in the NFL. It’s an opportunity, against a good football team, to go out there and prove people wrong.” His girlfriend, Ann Michael Hudson, shared her joy on social media, posting a message full of excitement and encouragement.

In his brief NFL debut against the New York Jets, Maye completed four of his eight passes after Brissett was benched during a challenging game that ended in a 24-3 loss. The Patriots are hopeful that his playing style will bring renewed energy to the struggling offense, as Brissett has completed only 58.5% of his passes with two touchdowns this season.

During his college career, Maye dazzled with impressive stats, throwing for 7,929 yards, 62 touchdowns, and earning All-ACC honors. Now, he gets a chance to showcase his skills at the professional level as New England looks to turn their season around.

The matchup against the Texans will be crucial, especially since Houston will be without wide receiver Nico Collins, who is out with a hamstring injury. Fans are eagerly anticipating the game as it could set the tone for Maye’s future with the team and the remainder of the season.
