Presbyterian staged a late comeback to defeat Winthrop in the series finale by a final score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon. Winthrop drops to 13-20-1 overall and 4-8 in Big South play.

Each team got a runner on third with two outs in the first but failed to capitalize. Winthrop broke the scoreless tie in the third with two outs on Ricky Teel’s RBI groundout and Harrison Wilson’s RBI single.
Eagle starting pitcher Owen Sarna ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth as Presbyterian had guys on second and third with two outs. However, on the next play, Sarna induced a fly out to get out of the jam.
In the next inning, the Blue Hose ended the shutout bid and rallied to take a 3-2 lead on two straight RBI doubles by Jake Randolph and Jackson Hugus. However, PC’s lead would not last long as Charlie Evans homered in the seventh to tie the game at three.
Presbyterian went back out in front in their half of the inning on Brody Fahr’s sac fly, bringing in Jay Wetherington. Winthrop could not answer in the final two innings as PC hung on for the series sweep.
Winthrop hosts the Wildcats of Davidson College on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
