High Point, N.C. – In a thrilling matchup, the Winthrop Eagles showcased their power with four home runs and received a stellar pitching performance from Riley Huge to secure a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the High Point Panthers in the first game of a three-game series.
With this crucial win, Winthrop now stands at a 17-26-1 overall record and 6-12 in Big South play, displaying their resilience and determination on the field.
Riley Huge delivered a dominant pitching performance with 9 strikeouts over 6 innings, throwing 120 pitches to earn the win. The efficient and effective pitching display helped secure the victory for Winthrop.
The game kicked off with Wilson’s homer to center field in the first inning, giving Winthrop an early 1-0 lead. High Point quickly responded, tying the score in the bottom of the inning with a timely RBI single.
High Point pushed ahead with 3 runs in the second inning, taking a 4-1 lead. However, Winthrop fought back, with Affholter’s two-run shot in the fifth inning narrowing the gap to one run.
