EDMONDS – The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors wrapped up their regular season with a solid 2-0 victory over the Meadowdale Mavericks on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This win not only boosts the Warriors’ confidence but also sets the stage for their postseason play.
Both Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale have qualified for the upcoming 3A District 1 play-in/loser-out round scheduled for Thursday, October 31. The Warriors secured the seventh seed and will host the tenth-seeded Everett Seagulls at Edmonds-Woodway High School at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Meadowdale will head out as the twelfth seed to face the fifth-seeded Shorecrest Scots at Shoreline Stadium at 6 p.m.
The winning teams from these matchups will advance to the double elimination eight-team District tournament. In their game, Edmonds-Woodway scored two goals, with Ava Huse netting one and Janie Hanson finding the back of the net with an assist from Bella Dreitzler. The Warriors’ goalkeeper, Alice Everett, earned a shutout, demonstrating excellent defensive play.
For Meadowdale, the season shapes up as a disappointment with a record of 4-8 in the league and 7-9 overall. In contrast, Edmonds-Woodway finishes with a record of 7-5 in the league and 11-5 overall.
In other action, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks triumphed over the Arlington Eagles with a close 1-0 finish. Ally Villalobos Van Slooten scored off a corner kick taken by Claire August, while goalkeeper Jordyn Stokes also secured a shutout for the Hawks. Mountlake Terrace heads into their elimination game against the sixth-seeded Stanwood at 6 p.m. on the same day.
Shorecrest also had a big win over Lynnwood, demolishing them with a score of 9-0. The Scots will be looking to carry momentum into their next match against Meadowdale. Meanwhile, Lynnwood’s tough season ended with a record of 0-12 in league play.
As the playoffs approach, both Edmonds-Woodway and Mountlake Terrace are looking to make noise and push for a shot at the championship.
