ESPNU has announced that it will televise the Saturday, April 6 matchup between USC Upstate and Winthrop baseball teams at 6:00pm from the Winthrop Ballpark. This broadcast will mark the second game of the three-game conference series between the two teams. To accommodate the ESPNU production, the game time has been changed from its original 3:00 p.m. start.
USC Upstate, the Big South preseason favorite, currently holds a 4-4 record this season. The team is led by Vance Sheahan with a .414 batting average and Jace Rinehart with a .378 average. Rinehart was recently named the National Hitter of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association for his outstanding performance last week.
On the other side, Winthrop, tied for fourth in the conference’s preseason ranking, is currently 2-7 since the season began. The Eagles’ top hitter, Charlie Evans, boasts a .385 batting average. Pitcher Riley Huge was named the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week after his remarkable 13-strikeout, 1-hit game against Toledo.
