This week in Alabama high school football promises a series of thrilling games that could cause more shakeups in the rankings. Following an eventful week two, which already saw significant changes in the top 25 standings, the action is heating up as top-10 teams prepare for challenging matchups.
On Friday, September 6, #12 Opelika will face off against #2 Auburn. Opelika is coming off a dominant 48-13 victory over Callaway, Georgia, demonstrating a strong defense that has allowed only 27 points this season. They are led by Auburn commit Malik Autry. Meanwhile, Auburn has been equally impressive, boasting an undefeated record after a decisive 52-17 win against Vestavia Hills last week. Auburn’s senior quarterback Jackson Kilgore had an impressive performance, completing 21 of 28 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Last year’s match was tightly contested, with Auburn edging out Opelika 31-30 on the road.
In another exciting matchup, #7 Enterprise will visit #11 Dothan. Enterprise’s senior class is packed with talent, including top-75 defensive back Eric Winters, committed to Auburn. They kicked off their season with a convincing 35-7 win over Andalusia and followed it up with a 24-6 victory against Pike Road. Dothan, after defeating Monroe 49-21, will look to maintain their momentum against Enterprise.
#6 Hewitt-Trussville is also in action, taking on #22 Vestavia Hills. Hewitt-Trussville secured a solid 42-14 victory against Gadsden City last week, thanks to quarterback Noah Dobbins, who showcased an outstanding performance. Vestavia Hills, however, struggled against Auburn, losing 52-17.
In a game featuring two strong teams, #16 Hoover will go up against #10 Hillcrest. Hoover, coming off a close 39-37 loss to Spain Park, will be looking to regroup. Hillcrest, on the other hand, has been scoring heavily, with at least 30 points in both of their previous games.
Lastly, #15 Daphne will take on #25 Mary G Montgomery. Daphne’s defense has been impressive, allowing only 16 points in their first game and 7 in their second. After suffering a loss in their first game of the season, Mary G Montgomery bounced back with a win against Gulf Shores.
The coming week is shaping up to be one filled with excitement and potential surprises. Fans can catch all the action as these talented teams battle it out for bragging rights and crucial standings in the rankings.
