In the city of Pittsburgh, the high school basketball tournaments showcased some exciting matchups this past Sunday. The Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament took center stage at Lincoln Park. Lincoln Park secured a strong victory against Ambridge with a score of 53-22. Meanwhile, Neighborhood Academy dominated Bishop Canevin, finishing with a convincing 62-31 win. A close encounter saw Obama Academy sneak past West Allegheny, 52-49.
Over at the Play 4 Mae tournament held at Woodland Hills, Riverview took home a win against Brashear, wrapping up at 49-38. Woodland Hills displayed a solid performance against Steel Valley, winning decisively at 59-26. York Suburban also impressed, taking on McKeesport and finishing 76-59.
As we look ahead to Monday’s schedule, excitement continues with the WPIAL Rettger tournament at Franklin Regional. Notable matches include Aquinas Academy facing Avonworth at 6 p.m. and Seneca Valley going up against Franklin Regional at 7:30 p.m.. The nonsection games feature several teams, including Allderdice battling Montour and Canon-McMillan visiting Peters Township, both set for 7:30 p.m..
In the girls’ basketball division, the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament also concluded Sunday, with Altoona overcoming North Allegheny 57-41 and Lincoln Park edging out Beaver Falls, finishing 41-39. The North Allegheny tournament saw Blackhawk claim victory over Latrobe with a score of 71-57 and Mt. Lebanon narrowly defeating North Catholic 52-46.
