Rock Hill is buzzing with anticipation as several exciting projects are in the works! This charming city, known for its vibrant community and beautiful parks, is about to see some new additions that could transform parts of the area. From retail spaces to a new Tractor Supply Co. store, here’s a rundown of what’s coming to Rock Hill and what it could mean for residents.
One of the most talked-about projects is the planned Tractor Supply Co. store, which is set to spring up in Newport. This new store will occupy an almost 8-acre site at 2871 Heckle Blvd, right across from the upcoming Aspen Business Park, which will be a massive 1.8 million-square-foot complex. With Old Pointe Elementary School and the Rock Hill Aquatics Center just behind it, this location could become a bustling hub for families and visitors alike. Plus, there’s a Zaxby’s restaurant nearby for those craving a bite to eat!
The proposed store will be similar in design to the Lake Wylie Tractor Supply that opened a few years back. Boasting almost 22,000 square feet of retail space and around 19,000 square feet dedicated to outdoor sales, it promises to be a great destination for anyone interested in farm, landscaping, and outdoor living supplies. Excitingly, the site will also be subdivided for future commercial construction, hinting at even more shopping options for the community.
But the Tractor Supply store isn’t the only thrilling project on the docket! There are also plans for Porters Landing near the Catawba River. This area, previously home to the old Porters Motel, is set for a major revamp. The city initially earmarked land for a 370-apartment plan, but the latest update reveals that this project will not only include residential sites but also 50,000 square feet of commercial space!
The plans evolved over time, tweaking the architecture and layout to maximize the use of space. The new proposal involves constructing buildings that will have commercial spaces on the ground floor with apartments above – a perfect blend for those seeking convenience. The current plan also highlights the construction of seven buildings that could reach up to five stories, all designed to enhance the community experience.
Another significant development is proposed near the Westminster Catawba Christian School. Here, Velocity Commercial Real Estate is seeking to rezone property at Dutchman and Rosewood drives for new retail construction. This area will combine with other plots to create a nearly 10,000-square-foot retail and office building.
Two years ago, plans were proposed for three commercial buildings in the same location, but those didn’t move forward. The revamped plan aims to align more closely with residential needs, integrating stormwater management and tree buffer areas to maintain the area’s charm while offering commercial facilities to local residents.
Lastly, there’s big news for families in the school district! Campco Engineering has applied for the construction of a new facility at Sunset Park Elementary School. The existing 67,000-square-foot school will be replaced with a more modern 94,000-square-foot structure. Plans suggest that the new building could be complete by summer 2026, promising a fresh and engaging learning environment for students.
With all these exciting projects in the pipeline, Rock Hill is on the brink of transformation. From new shopping options to upgraded educational facilities, it seems that change is definitely in the air! The city planning commission will be taking a closer look at these proposals in meetings scheduled for Tuesday night.
Stay tuned, Rock Hill! There’s so much to look forward to in the near future.
