A man fatally shot his co-worker amid an argument in Rock Hill on Wednesday afternoon, according to local authorities. The incident occurred around 3:10 pm near Riverwalk Parkway and Celriver Road. The incident evolved into a violent confrontation involving a vehicle blockade and culminated in the fatal shooting of a woman. The authorities have ruled the shooting as self-defense; hence no charges were brought against the shooter. However, another woman involved in the incident was apprehended and accused of assault and battery.
The Incident Unfolds
Reports suggest that the dispute began at work between the shooter and his female co-worker. Eventually, the female co-worker stepped into a car driven by 32-year-old Brittney Reed. The man attempted to depart from the workplace, but he was intercepted by Reed, who pulled her vehicle upfront to create a blockade. The female co-worker then approached the man’s car, armed with a gun, on the passenger side. This confrontation provoked the man to draw his handgun and fire multiple shots at her chest.
Aggression Met with Retaliation
Police reports also indicated that after the shooting, Reed assaulted the shooter by physically striking him in the face. The authorities have since arrested and charged Reed with assault and battery. The condition of the male involved in the shooting is not reported in full detail.
Following the shooting, the injured woman was rapidly transported to Piedmont Medical Center. However, doctors were unable to save her, and she was eventually pronounced dead. The police, following their investigation, retrieved two firearms from the scene of the incident.
The Rock Hill community has been left in shock by the tragic incident. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge related to the motives and relationships between those involved.
The incident is a stark reminder of workplace disputes escalating to violence, and it serves as a wake-up call for the community and local businesses to foster dispute resolution mechanisms and promote a non-violent work environment.
